When the previous owners added the second room upstairs, they had to cut off the rafters where the wall went. All but two of the rafters were able to attach to the studs of the new wall. The two that were left, they just left hanging with no support. They were free floating and they resulting movement caused the leak in the roof. I went into the attic and added the support and cut off the rafters so they would sit on the new supports. This really stabilized the roof rafters a lot. Now to get the roof fixed for good.
